how to calculate weight of carbon steel pipe?

Update Time:2025/11/5
To calculate the weight of a steel tube, use this formula:

Weight = π × [(Outer Diameter / 2)² − (Outer Diameter / 2 − Wall Thickness)²] × Length × Density of Steel

The density depends on the steel type:

Mild steel: 7.88 g/cm³

Carbon steel: 7.84 g/cm³

Stainless steel: 8.03 g/cm³

This formula gives the theoretical weight based on uniform wall thickness and consistent material density. When calculating, make sure to use consistent measurement units such as millimeters or centimeters and convert the final result into kilograms per meter or tons per piece. The weight of steel tubes helps determine shipping cost, strength, and structural performance.

Yuantai Derun provides accurate steel tube weight charts and custom calculators for round, square, and rectangular tubes, making it easier for engineers and buyers to estimate the total quantity required for each project. Our advanced production lines ensure stable wall thickness and precise dimensions, so the actual weight remains very close to the theoretical value. This reliability allows customers to plan efficiently, reduce waste, and ensure smooth installation on construction, industrial, or infrastructure sites.
